Really digging my Macintosh right now after a frustrating day in the Windows XP world. Not sure if I am having more fun with the Mac or Ubuntu… tough decision. I suppose Ubuntu is free, so they win. But the Mac seems more refined. Dang, tough decision. GRR.
Check this out. I have the shittiest, and I mean shittiest ESXi server. SOOO little resources free.
I needed a TFTP server. Installed Ubuntu 10.10 server, OpenSSH and installed TFTP on there. Set permissions on the folder and BAM! I couldn’t believe it . Runs at 48 megs of ram, plus a 4 more for video. I allocated 96megs, SOOO wasteful. Cut it down to 68megs. VERY happy.
Now I tossed a vsFTP server on another server, gave it a TERRIBLE wasteful 128ram. Super great.
Anyhow, I just wanted to point out what would have cost me hundreds of dollars and consuming most my resources in the Windows world was, free, secure and had NO foot print. Unsadly I am having to run Ubuntu now so I can SSH in without some silly putty client.
I seriously think Microsoft is driving me to Linux.
I am sure the Etch-a-sketch style ereaders are fine. I really am sure. But since they can’t offer me a full web experience they are simply not for me.
So I went to Boarders, figuring this company is fighting hard to get their heads above water. The one place they can’t less themselves mess up is here in ebook realm. Well, sadly. They did. Something called the Kobo. Basically only etch-a-sketch models. They seemed fine enough the ones that worked. But again, doesn’t meet my needs.
I noticed they had a iPad knock-off. Seriously. It was like a kids toy style knock off look to it. Gimme one second while I pull the pic from my phone. Okay, there. LOOK!
Man it’s worse in person. The touch pad felt like it was cell phone from 2005. No pinch to zoom (at least it didn’t work) poor response and terrible graphics. I am sooooo sold on the Nook color. Borders once again is committing tech suicide.
I have to admit I have been completely out of touch with this whole e-reader phenomenon and smart phones for that matter. I say this since I walked into a Barns and Nobles today and saw a Nook Color. I was shocked! Not only was its screen ideal for reading it had a really great web browsing experience. No joke! Tried all dozen web sites I normally use and they worked great! I don’t understand the bad mouthing of this thing. Sure, I am new to these things but can you really get a better web experience for $200 that weighs basically nothing. SERIOUSLY! Amazing. If this thing would just get applib or something like that on it would be awesome. Angry birds baby!
Oh yeah, and there something about ebooks or something.
Yeah, you heard it. I completely just read MacOS10.5 support essentials cover to cover. Labbed it for about 10 hours. Starting in the 10.6 version of the book today. I wonder if I am actually qualified to take a shot at the exam? Since the job pays for it, why not give it a shot.
Hey hey kids!
So the wife it out of town and so far I’ve studied my ass off. Also, had a beer. Awesome.
I have no real direction, that is a bad thing. I was messing with Cisco Wireless, then Mac and then finally started messing with my CCNP. Go figure. I’ll pick a real direction tomorrow after work.Right now I am just debating CCNP, a nice long term goal I should be working on. OR A quick win such as CCNA:wireless or just messing with Mac.
Check this out. I have this hotmail account. I hardly use it except for my certification stuff. Hardly ever gets SPAM. I signed up for a Citrix cert not too long ago and seriously, the next day I am getting half a dozen a day. Many viagra and IT certification related.
I really really feel like Citrix sold my information.
Just something I noticed, just a theory.
