So I just passed 642-902. BY A HAIR! I probably didn’t deserve to pass. Then again, I don’t think my study materials covered everything I was being hit with anyway. Gonna spend a few days and read up on multicast and ISIS just so I can hob nob with the CCNPs who passed under the 642-901 exam. Then I need to hurry up and pass Server+. Yeah, you read it right. Server+. Why not? Free cert paid by work.
Then I am all about passing Cisco’s Switch exam. I have quickly discoved my old switches and packet tracer are not gonna cut it. Then my favorite tech hang out pointed me to packetlife.com looks like the people there just GIVE rack time away. PERFECT! There is wait, but who cares? You gotta read the chapters ahead of time anyway.
I went and reserved some time for a week from Saturday. I’ll let you guys know how it works out. Really excited! Eventually I need to get a set of my own 3550s. Especially considering I want to take on voip later this year. But for now this is ideal.

Alright! Just excited to post my success yesterday. Nearly 3 years in the works and I passed my 70-298 exam! I am officially an MCSE with Security specialization. I know it’s an old cert. But really it was soooo much information and it took years to get the experience in ISA, VPN, IAS, Security Templates, Services optimization, Exchange, PKI, IPSec so on.
But I got it! Next step is to get more Cisco. Hoping to knock out CCNP’s Route exam by the end of the year. I’ve already put 200+ hours into studying last year. I quit when they changed the exams out. So hopefully 3 months is enough time. Anyhow, 3 months, 3 years. Keep moving forward and hope it pays off someday.

So I passed my Linux+, by the skin of my teeth by the way. PURE trivia. I hear the LPI version of the exam are just as bad. Since passing I have been working my ass off trying to get my MCSE:Security certification. I know it’s an older cert, and certainly not exactly employable. But I have always admired the people who go just a bit farther than they need to.
There is no lack of CCNAs and MCSEs who come knocking on our door for a job. But I always look twice when I see CCNA:Sec or MCSE:Messaging. These are people who actually went one step father than they were required to. Love it.
Anyhow read the Microsoft Press book cover to cover. I took a class on 70-298 and 70-299 last yearish. Also using http://www.vtc.com’s great vids. Coming a long pretty well.
